Wesley Kerlee

Wesley Kerlee, of Fall City, loving husband to Joy, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at home. He was 74.

Wesley was born Sept. 24, 1939, in St. Helens, Ore., to Wesley and Josephine Soderberg. He was raised in Snoqualmie Falls, where he attended Snoqualmie schools. Following high school, Wes served four years in the United States Army, first as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and then as an honor guard in Korea.

In the early 1960s, following his honorable service to his country, Wes went to work at Weyerhaeuser. He worked as a heavy equipment operator building roads. Wes would go on to work in a similar role at the Washington State Department of Transportation. He retired from WSDOT after 33 years of dedicated service.

Paul Matthews Lawrence returned to his Heavenly Father on Jan. 5, 2014, at 8:57 a.m., in Issaquah.

He was born in Evanston, Wyoming, on Aug. 13, 1960, to David Elmer Lawrence and Karen Blanche Matthews Lawrence. In his youth, he lived in Big Piney, Wyoming, where his father was working in the oil industry.

He loved the outdoors and the various seasons. The big blue skies when the snow came was one of his favorite times of the year. The close community environment was what helped him to develop his love of people and the importance of giving to family, friends and neighbors.

Harry “Gaylord” Meeks, of Seattle, died on Dec. 22, 2013. He was 73 years of age.

A committal service with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 8, 2014, at Tahoma National Cemetery.

Gaylord was born on Sept. 18, 1940, in Lackawanna, N.Y., the son of Harry and Evelyn Meeks. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1959. He went to the University of Washington for three years.

Bernice Bonner, 93, of Issaquah, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.

She is survived by children Jim and Shirley, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Service is at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Gibson Hall in Issaquah.

Rae M. Bakamus passed away Dec. 23, 2013, after a courageous battle with a debilitating illness.

She was born in Renton on March 7, 1927, daughter of Rem and Gertrude Castagno, and was raised in Issaquah with her seven siblings. She graduated from Issaquah High School and later married her sweetheart and dance partner, Vlase Bakamus, whom she was married to for 64 years. They resided in Morton before retiring in Issaquah.

Rae was known for life-guarding at the “old swimming hole” on the Tilton River; bowling a near perfect score, but settling for a 289; baking her famous blackberry and apple pies; and holding court for whomever dropped by, a pot of coffee still waiting for her next visitor.

Donald Benson, 78, of Sammamish, died Christmas morning.

Born and raised in South Dakota, Don moved to Washington in 1964, settling in Sammamish in 1988. He joined Associated Grocers in 1967, becoming president in 1986, a position held until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived and loved deeply by Janet, his wife of 32 years; daughters Laurie (Dusty) Henry, of Sequim, Lynn (Shawn) Fedina, of Sedro Woolley, and Lana (Mike) Johnson, of Arlington; son Mark, of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Chris was born Aug. 14, 1968, in Vallejo, Calif., to Gail Elizabeth Linden of San Diego, Calif. Chris spent his early childhood enjoying the beautiful beaches of San Diego, and moved with his family to Issaquah when he was 9 years old.

Yvonne Marie Allen, a lifelong resident of Issaquah, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stuart Allen; mother Arlene Durand; brother Dean Durand; her six children, Corey, Sabrina, Desiree, Brett, Deann and Shawn; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Yvonne enjoyed camping and reading, and was an avid bowler. You could often find Yvonne sitting on her deck, watching hummingbirds. She was a sports enthusiast and could be heard above the crowd.
