Joseph Davenport Lindgren, a 51-year resident of the Pine Lake/Sammamish area, was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Warwick, N.Y. He passed away Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.

As a young man, Joe visited Washington state and fell in love with the Northwest and stayed.

He worked at Alcoa in Wenatchee for a time and attended Wenatchee Valley College. He transferred to Central Washington College at Ellensburg and graduated with a teaching degree in 1959. He got a job teaching in the elementary schools on Mercer Island working with fourth- and fifth-graders. He spent his entire teaching career there and retired in 1990.

Mercedes Hisis, beloved mother, sister and daughter, died unexpectedly on April 29, 2014. She is survived by her daughter Mary, her mother, sisters and brother.

Mercedes was born July 3, 1956, in Havana, Cuba, and was the middle child in a family of six. She immigrated with her parents and family to the United States in 1960.

Gro Marie Foss passed away peacefully at Spiritwood at Pine Lake Adult Living Facility on April 27, 2014.

Marie, as she was known here in the United States, was born in Norway on Feb. 19, 1915, to Daniel and Ragnhild Frydenlund. She attended public schools in Norway and graduated with a degree in business from high school in Oslo.

She met and married Gunvald Foss. They had three children, Ingeleiv J. Stovner (Ronald), Asgjerd V. Jacobson and Richard B. Foss. The family lived in Gansdalen, Norway, until 1951, when they emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Washington state.

Elizabeth Fuller Wilder

Elizabeth “Betty” Fuller Wilder passed away from complications of pancreatic cancer on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the age of 91.

Born in Hood River, Ore., on July 17, 1922, to Charles and Lois (Coshow) Fuller, Betty was the youngest of four children with two sisters Frances and Harriet and a brother Bob. She attended elementary and high school in Hood River, and then began her studies at Oregon State University in Corvallis. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, which became a lifelong affiliation.

Betty took a leave of absence during her senior year to help care for her brother Bob when he was diagnosed with cancer. In April of 1943, her sister Harriet died during childbirth. Betty moved to Eugene to help her brother-in-law Bill Smullin with her 10-year-old niece Shirley and newborn nephew David, creating a bond that lasts through today.

Michael is survived by his daughter Natalie, son Scott, sister Janice, brother Jim and soon to be son-in-law Cameron.

Marcelle “Sunny” J. Kjellstrom Campbell passed away peacefully in her assisted living Bellevue home surrounded by her family on April 12, 2014.

Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Rockford, Ill., of Swedish parents, she embraced her Swedish heritage. Sunny attended Principia College and married her high school sweetheart Errol in 1947.

Violet (Vee) Fletcher, of Issaquah, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014. She was 94 years of age.

Vee was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Denver, the daughter of Angela and Fiore Corbett. She was raised in Denver and graduated from North High School. She married J. Eugene Fletcher in 1942, and they made their home in Washington, residing in Camas, Seattle, Cheney and Issaquah.
