Judith Thomas

Judith Laverne Thomas was born Sept. 16, 1940, to Fritz E. Carlson and Winifred I. Carlson.

Heaven welcomed her on Dec. 18, 2012. She was our mother, mother-in law, sister, daughter, aunt, Grandma Judy, Great Grandma Judy and dear friend to so many.

The best baker in town! She shared her love for us all with cookies, pies, creampuffs and truly edible fruit cake!

She found joy in beachcombing for agates, fishing with anyone who would go with her, baking with her grandkids and, in retirement, spending time with her four-legged best buddy Buster.

Thank you, Mom, you live deep in our hearts.

Donald Sherstad

Dad passed peacefully on Dec. 9, 2012, and into the arms of Jesus. His family was at his side and at his home. He was 83 years young.

Don Sherstad was born on July 28, 1929, in Detroit to Olaf and Esther Sherstad. At 16, his family moved to Ballard. He married Micki Johnson in 1953, who was his bride for 60 years.

As a survival instructor for the U.S. Navy, Dad used his training and faith in his Lord to survive the night while lost during a hunting trip.

His lifelong career began 43 years ago as a custom home builder, Sherstad Construction. Dad earned a wonderful reputation for his integrity and quality craftsmanship. He loved building the English Tudor design, and you may see evidence of his homes sprinkled throughout the plateau area. On speculation, he brought his family to live on the shores of beautiful Pine Lake and, as a result, he is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Issaquah and highlands housing boom during the 1960s.
