Helen Lorraine Reeder, a longtime Issaquah resident, passed away quietly on Jan. 11, 2014, in Vancouver, Wash. She was 88.

Helen had eight children, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest Milton “Milt” Swanson, was born March 29, 1918, in Newcastle, to Ernest and Esilda Swanson; he passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, due to complications from a fall.

Milt, a lifelong resident of Newcastle, lived his entire life at the family home — a former mine company house just off Lakemont Boulevard. Frequent travelers on that road will remember the coal car in his front yard and the railroad semaphore he installed at the end of his driveway, rigged to light up and signal when anyone came down the drive.

Milt attended school in Newcastle until the Newcastle kids were transported to Issaquah in the eighth grade, graduating from Issaquah High School in 1936. After high school, he spent three years in Alaska, and then spent five years in the U.S. Coast Guard and received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a combat aircrewman.

Raymond Elmer Hood, 22 Apr 1926 – 14 Jan 2014, of Issaquah, passed peacefully in Bellevue with family present.

Survived by five children; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two wives and a granddaughter.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, reading westerns and going to his local Eagles to play poker.

A private ceremony of life will be held at a later date.

Robert was born on Dec. 10, 1956, in Tulsa, Okla. He was raised in Bellevue, graduated from Sammamish High School in 1974 and moved to Issaquah in 1991.

Gary Graham, a man of God, passed away in his sleep on Dec. 17, 2013, from a sudden cardiac arrest.

He will be forever remembered for his warm smile, hearty chuckle and loving spirit.

Wesley Kerlee, of Fall City, loving husband to Joy, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at home. He was 74.

Wesley was born Sept. 24, 1939, in St. Helens, Ore., to Wesley and Josephine Soderberg. He was raised in Snoqualmie Falls, where he attended Snoqualmie schools. Following high school, Wes served four years in the United States Army, first as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and then as an honor guard in Korea.

In the early 1960s, following his honorable service to his country, Wes went to work at Weyerhaeuser. He worked as a heavy equipment operator building roads. Wes would go on to work in a similar role at the Washington State Department of Transportation. He retired from WSDOT after 33 years of dedicated service.

Paul Matthews Lawrence returned to his Heavenly Father on Jan. 5, 2014, at 8:57 a.m., in Issaquah.

He was born in Evanston, Wyoming, on Aug. 13, 1960, to David Elmer Lawrence and Karen Blanche Matthews Lawrence. In his youth, he lived in Big Piney, Wyoming, where his father was working in the oil industry.

He loved the outdoors and the various seasons. The big blue skies when the snow came was one of his favorite times of the year. The close community environment was what helped him to develop his love of people and the importance of giving to family, friends and neighbors.
