The Liberty High School girls soccer team dropped its first match of the season Oct. 1, falling to an undefeated Mercer Island squad, 1-0.
Earlier in the week, the Patriots defeated Bellevue, 2-0. Freshman Cameron Nelson scored in the 23rd minute, assisted by Maddy Mak. Sophomore Makenna Carr added an unassisted goal in the 59th minute. Goalkeepers Sydney Argosino and Jasmine Curl combined for the shutout.
As of press time, Liberty’s 3-1-1 Class 3A/2A KingCo Conference record, good for 10 points, had the Patriots in third place behind league-leading Mercer Island and Bellevue. Read more

Girls swimming and diving
The Liberty High School girls swimming and diving team won 11 of 12 events at its meet against rival Hazen on Sept. 22.
Sophomore Abby Russell led the Patriots with two individual wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles. Read more

The Liberty football team improved to 3-0 on the season with its 38-27 come-from-behind win over Interlake Sept. 18.
After heading into halftime down 20-10, the Patriots outscored Interlake 18-7 in the second half to clinch their first league win of the year.

From the opening whistle of their Sept. 9 outing, there was a pep in the step of every member of the Issaquah High School girls soccer team.
The energy the Eagles brought to their nonleague match with the visiting Auburn Mountainview Lions didn’t immediately pay dividends. Despite Issaquah’s sizable lead in possession and shots, the scoreboard read 0-0 as the first half wound down.

For a team trying to integrate so many new players into its lineup – including replacements at goalkeeper and all four defender positions – there were bound to be some early-season bumps for the Skyline Spartans.
But the Spartans showed noticeable improvement between their first and second matches. After dropping a 2-1 decision to Class 1A Seattle Academy in the season opener, Skyline bounced back with a solid, 2-0 victory over plateau rival Eastside Catholic in a nonleague girls soccer contest Sept. 8 at Skyline High School.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named Skyline High School’s Abbey Porter to its 2015 High School Girls Scholar All-America team.
Porter, a standout defender who graduated in June, helped Skyline place third at the Class 4A state tournament in 2014. She’s the first NSCAA All-American in Skyline history, and was the only Washington player among this year’s 46 selections.
