Marek Pierepiekarz and Matthew Cao needed a little time to get warmed up, but once they did, opponents were on alert.
The Liberty High School doubles team took second place at the Class 2A state boys tournament, held May 29-30 at the University of Washington, picking up where they left off in the fall when they became the first tennis players in school history to win a district championship.

Something special is brewing on the Liberty baseball diamond.
The Patriots are in the state’s final four, after a weekend in which they eliminated Tumwater and then North Kitsap at Centralia’s Wheeler Field May 23.
Nate Steffens threw a complete game shutout, while Torey Anderson collected three hits to propel the Patriots to a 3-0 win over Tumwater. The Thunderbirds came into the contest with a 16-6 record and consistently found themselves in the top 10 of state rankings.
Liberty continued to stun spectators with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over North Kitsap. Read more

Julia Lioubarski and Jasmine Ye are going back to the place they wanted to be all season.
The Skyline High School doubles team qualified for the Class 4A state girls tennis tournament, placing second at the KingCo Conference tournament held May 11-15 at Skyline.
It’s the second straight year Lioubarski and Ye have reached state, and they’ll be aiming to improve upon their eighth-place finish of last season. The state tourney will be held May 29-30 in Richland.

Fans of the Skyline and Issaquah high school girls tennis teams couldn’t have asked for a much better match than what they witnessed when the rival schools got together in the Class 4A KingCo Conference regular-season finale.
Issaquah came out on top in a couple marathon singles matches, but visiting Skyline earned a 4-3 win May 6 by sweeping the three doubles matches.

Liberty High School senior Sadie Demme was the last singles player to leave the tennis court March 26.
By the time her match against Sammamish’s Jessica Jou finished, most of the doubles teams were wrapping up their games.

It was another successful year for Issaquah community sports.
Athletes at the three district high schools took home conference titles, state championships and, in Liberty’s case, made history in 2014.

The Class 4A KingCo Conference boys tennis tournament was supposed to last three days, but heavy rain stretched it to five.
The weather delays didn’t seem to bother Issaquah High School sophomore Jackson Suh, who outlasted all of his competitors to win the singles bracket Nov. 1 at Skyline High School.
Suh, the runner-up at last season’s state tournament, cruised through his four matches en route to the KingCo title, and will now have several months to rest up and hone his game before the state event in May.
