Patriots fall to top-ranked Cleveland, 48-35
If anyone had any questions about the Liberty High School girls basketball team’s season goal, they need only to look at the players’ forearms as they stepped on the Bellevue College court for a March 1 loser-out, winner-to-state game.
Scrawled in black, capital letters was the acronym DIFD — Do it for the Dome, the Tacoma Dome, that is.
The Patriots’ road to the state tournament, held at the Tacoma Dome, came to an end March 1, after a 48-35 loss to top-ranked Cleveland.

It’s been nothing but smooth sailing this season for the 14-5 Liberty girls basketball team, but things got a little rocky just a week before the end of the season.
It began with a 53-45 loss to Mercer Island on Jan. 29, and continued with a 55-36 defeat at the hands of a determined Bellevue team Jan. 31. The Islanders and the Wolverines were both teams the Patriots beat earlier in the season
“Hopefully, we’ve got this rough stretch out of the way,” Liberty coach Curtis Terry said. “I’d rather get it out now than in the playoffs, when it’s do or die.”

Liberty High School soccer coach Tami Nguyen must have said something rather poignant during her halftime speech to the team in an Oct. 8 match against Interlake.
The Patriots ended the first half down 1-0. The second half was a different story, however, as Liberty erupted for five goals, clinching a 5-3 victory against the Saints.
Nguyen’s halftime pep talk to the team was short and simple, according to Liberty defender Shaniah Adriano.
“’Horrible start,’ that’s the first thing coach said,” Adriano said.
