Nourish Every Mind Luncheon raises $617,000 to benefit students and schools

Almost 900 community members attended the Issaquah Schools Foundation’s 17th annual Nourish Every Mind Luncheon on May 14 at the Issaquah Community Center and donated $617,000 for local schools.

The program featured several students and educators who spoke passionately about the foundation’s impact on education.

Off The Press — Influence the Choice videos amaze, inspire

There were 11 winners, but if you ask me, everyone who entered the 2015 Influence The Choice Student Video Contest were winners.

In this year’s contest, from Jan. 1 through Feb. 28, 260 students participated in producing 100 videos. Those entries represented 959 creating hours!

Liberty student wins ‘Influence the Choice’ video contest

NEW — 6 a.m. April 16, 2014

Liberty High School junior Ashton Herrild took home the top prize in the Drug Free Community Coalition’s 2014 “Influence the Choice” student video contest.

Herrild’s two-minute video encouraged peers to “live for the nights you’ll never forget,” rather than “the nights you won’t remember,” and live a drug-free life. His overall win came with a prize of $800.

More than 100 Issaquah School District students worked to submit 54 videos encouraging their peers to say no to prescription drugs, alcohol and marijuana. The students spent an estimated 400 hours crafting the videos.
