Issaquah’s Fab 14 accept scholarships

Coaches and players on opposing basketball teams knew how good Ty Gibson was, but the Issaquah High School senior might not have convinced any colleges of his talents until a virtuoso performance at the state tournament in March.

Over the course of three games, Gibson set a new tourney scoring record with 87 points. His last two games in an Issaquah uniform were superstar material — a career-high 42 points against Moses Lake, and 32 more against Kentwood as the Eagles clinched the fourth-place trophy.

Elite basketball academy comes to Newcastle

Beaver Lake looking to dedicate gym to teacher

Beaver Lake Middle School is seeking to name its gymnasium Chuck Lee Court, after one of its teachers who lost his battle with cancer this year.

Principal Stacy Cho made the proposal at the Issaquah School Board’s May 14 meeting, and the board is expected to adopt the plan at its May 28 meeting.

Lee spent more than three decades teaching and coaching in the community, at Beaver Lake and Skyline High School. Peers and students lauded him for not only teaching fundamentals, but for being a strong role model and developing character among children, Cho wrote in a letter to the board.

The world famous Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their basketball skills and popular Summer Clinics to the region, in partnership with 24 Hour Fitness.

As part of their 471 Summer Clinic Tour in 19 markets across the U.S., the Globetrotters are coming to the local 24 Hour Fitness, 5712 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway, June 25-28.

Each day consists of three separate two-hour sessions — 9-11 a.m.; 12:30-2:30 p.m.; and 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The Harlem Globetrotters will be in Issaquah July 22-27 for a clinic, for ages 6-12, at 24 Hour Fitness, 5712 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway.

Globetrotters will be on court for two-hour sessions — coaching,
