Amateur musicians enjoy intimate setting of Open Mic Night

Not everyone can walk on-stage before a crowd of thousands to perform their favorite songs.

For those musicians who wish to start smaller, limiting their jitters to a more intimate audience, there’s Issaquah’s Open Mic Night.

“It’s a different concept, especially for some people who have never performed in public before or younger people who get nervous, have a desire to see if they have what it takes to go down the road to perform in a nonthreatening environment,” said Bob Brock, who heads up the event after taking over for founding members Doug Browning and Fred Hopkins.

Join the band on Make Music Day June 21

Someone has to make music and it might as well be the whole community.

For the second year in a row, the Downtown Issaquah Association will lead the city to join the rest of the world in International Music Day on June 21. With festivities highlighting the talents of the community, the day will offer plenty of opportunities to listen to and make music.

“It’s going to be pretty significant,” DIA Executive Director Karen Donovan said. “We’re going to have over 25 bands in seven outdoor locations, four regular venues and six nontraditional spots.”
