Liberty girls run to trophy finish at state track meet

Liberty High School’s girls track and field team made its mark at the Class 2A state championships last week, earning the fourth-place trophy with 42 points.

The Patriots qualified in eight events for the May 28-30 meet at Mount Tahoma High School, and won a total of six individual medals and three relay medals to finish behind champion Shorewood (57 points), Sehome (55) and Pullman (44).

Liberty baseball team makes state’s final four and other notes

May 26, 2015

NEW — 3:40 p.m. May 26, 2015

Something special is brewing on the Liberty baseball diamond.

The Patriots are in the state’s final four, after a weekend in which they eliminated Tumwater and then North Kitsap at Centralia’s Wheeler Field May 23.

Nate Steffens threw a complete game shutout, while Torey Anderson collected three hits to propel the Patriots to a 3-0 win over Tumwater. The Thunderbirds came into the contest with a 16-6 record and consistently found themselves in the top 10 of state rankings.

Liberty continued to stun spectators with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over North Kitsap. Read more

Patriots make history, win district playoff basketball game

The 2014-2015 Liberty High School boys basketball team did something Feb. 14 that no past Patriots squad has ever done.

The Skyline High School girls track and field team capped a solid 2014 season last weekend at the Class 4A state championships by winning the fourth-place trophy.

Skyline scored 35 points to finish behind Richland (37), Camas (48) and Federal Way (72), which successfully defended its state championship at Star Track XXXII, held May 29-31 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
