Weekend plant sale will honor late Sammamish resident, benefit Red Cross

The family of a late Sammamish college student will host a three-day plant sale starting Friday to raise money for American Red Cross disaster-relief efforts.
Clayton Olney, a longtime Red Cross volunteer, died in December 2008 at 25. To honor the Eastlake High School graduate and University of Washington student, his parents held a plant sale last March to Stella d’Oro daylilies. The successful sale raised $2,120 for Red Cross disaster relief.

Once, on a family vacation to Hawaii, Clayton Olney took his parents to a botanical garden to see a Bodhi tree. Buddhists believe Gautama Buddha, the founder of their faith, achieved enlightenment beneath the leaves of the sacred fig. Read more
