Amy Spens wins Bowdoin College honor

Amy Spens, of Issaquah, recently received the Bowdoin Theater and Dance Department’s 2015 William H. Moody ‘56 Award at the college’s Honors Day ceremony held May 6 at Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine.

Spens is earning a major in anthropology and biology.

Seth Hartman, a 2014 graduate of Issaquah High School, has received an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship to attend Washington State University.

National Merit Scholarship

Five local high school seniors are among its collegiate-sponsored winners for the 2014 scholarship program of the National Merit Scholarship Corp.:

  • Catherine Ball, Issaquah High School, is pursuing a degree in computer programming at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.
  • Grant Vaska, Issaquah High School, will attend Washington University in St. Louis, Minn.
  • Kathleen Park, of Sammamish, will pursue a degree in communications at Wheaton College near Chicago.
  • Shanchen Pu, of Sammamish, will pursue a degree in medicine at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
  • Nikila Vinugopal, of Sammamish, will pursue a career in dance at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Bridget Rowe to study abroad

July 15, 2014

Bridget Rowe, of Renton, is one of 33 students that will participate in a cross-cultural experience this summer through Dordt College, in Sioux Center, Iowa.

She will travel to the Netherlands to learn about the history and explore the region.

Rowe is a senior at Dordt, majoring in fine arts studio and social work. She also has minors in sociology and the Kuyper Scholars Program.

Local students use spring break to volunteer

Bridget and Eric Rowe, of Renton, are spending their spring break with Putting Love Into Action, a group through Dordt College, Iowa, that focuses on community service around the nation.

Bridget will travel to New Orleans while Eric goes to Inez, Ky.
