Drive Electric Week car show on Sunday features fast, rare cars

NEW — 6 a.m. Sept. 20, 2014

More than 60 electric vehicles from the Northwest, including the world’s fastest street-legal all-electric car, will gather Sept. 21 in Issaquah at a car show celebrating National Drive Electric Week.

Among the new, rare and vintage conversion vehicles on display will be the first Fiat 500e in Washington as well as White Zombie, a 1972 Datsun that accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, which owner/builder John Wayland is bringing from Portland.

The show is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in, 98 N.E. Gilman Blvd.

Triple XXX hosts its first-ever electric car show May 11

For the first time, Triple XXX Rootbeer Drive-in will host a car show strictly for plug-in electric vehicles.

The Spring Electric Vehicle Show on May 11 is part of Triple XXX’s regular Sunday car show roster that typically features classic cars and collections from local car clubs.

At the Spring Electric Vehicle Show, members of the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association will showcase many different vehicles, including classic cars that have been converted to run on electricity as well as production vehicles such as the Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus, Mitsubishi, Fiat 500 and plug-in hybrids. Dealers and other sustainability representatives will be on hand to showcase how driving electric vehicles saves money while also saving the planet.

XXX showcases the classics — old and new

José Enciso has owned The XXX Rootbeer Drive-in since 1999, and it has turned out to be one of the most popular destinations for car buffs to gather.

Even though his growing schedule of shows is filled throughout the year with classic car clubs, and his own garage is packed with a variety of classic rides, Enciso knows the future of car clubs belongs to the newest aficionados who drive imports.

Enciso said The XXX became a destination for spontaneous meetups, or flash mobs, of like car owners, especially car clubs for imports, like Hondas and Subarus.
