Tent City 4 found a new temporary home.

Faith United Methodist Church’s congregation voted to welcome the traveling homeless shelter to its Klahanie-area property Feb. 25. Pastor John Brewer said the question was directly posed to those members of the church that attended a congregation meeting.

“The decision was referred to the congregation as a whole,” he said. “Those who could be there could cast a vote.”

The congregation approved to host the shelter and the move took place March 1.

Protests, acceptance fill meeting on whether to host Tent City 4

Tempers flared Feb. 11 at Faith United Methodist Church’s community meeting to discuss hosting Tent City 4.

Almost 200 residents — with concerns for children, jobs and safety — crowded into the church on Issaquah-Pine Lake Road in unincorporated King County. The meeting, according to the Rev. Dr. John Brewer, was to share information about the possibility of housing the traveling homeless shelter on church grounds.

“We were approached two and a half weeks ago with a serious request,” Brewer said. “While we had only briefly considered hosting in the summer time, this request came urgently.”

Faith United Methodist Church will hold a community meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 to consider the possibility of welcoming Tent City 4 onto its grounds

The traveling homeless shelter applied for a permit to stay at the church, at 3924 Issaquah-Pine Lake Road, asking to move there March 1. Pastor John Brewer said the meeting will aim to answer questions about hosting Tent City 4 and hear residents’ opinions.

Faith United Methodist Church’s annual Habitat for Humanity garage sale returns Sept. 27-28.

Bargain hunters can peruse and purchase donated merchandise both days.

“During the sale, our building is full of items,” the Rev. Dr. John Brewer said, “and they even spill over to the areas outside the church.”

Brewer said shoppers should arrive early on Friday to get the best deals on the best items.
