The Issaquah High School boys swim and dive team didn’t win a single event at the 2015 4A state swimming championship Feb. 20-21.
Yet, the Eagles’ top-to-bottom depth ensured the team had a spot on the podium when the meet came to a close Feb. 21 at Federal Way’s King County Aquatic Center.

The Issaquah boys swim and dive team may have lost their dual meet Jan. 15 to Bellevue, but head coach Laura Halter still sees the results in a positive light.
“Bellevue is one of the top teams in KingCo 3A and doesn’t count toward the standing,” she said of the 4A Eagles. “But they are good competition for us. I think they’ll be one of the top contenders at 3A.” Read more

In a meet featuring two teams of equal skill levels, the Issaquah Eagles boys swim team had a little more fuel in its tank than the Skyline Spartans.
Issaquah won all three relay events, propelling itself to a 96-87 victory over Class 4A KingCo Conference rival Skyline in a Dec. 11 dual meet at Mary Wayte Pool in Mercer Island.

Issaquah takes second at state swim meet behind win in 200-relay
Four members of the Issaquah High School swim team approached coach Laura Halter at the beginning of the season and told her they were going to do something special this year.
Gabe Florsheim, Ben Nussbaum, Henry Pratt and Jason Klein informed her that they would win the state’s 200-yard medley relay, and they’d do it in dramatic fashion.

Setting the lineups for swim meets can be a lot like a game of chess for coaches.
Coaches need to anticipate what the opponent will do with his or her lineup, in order to attempt to schedule the best race possible.
Never is that more evident than with Issaquah High School coach Laura Halter and Liberty High School coach Kris Daughters, who are rivals on the pool deck, but best friends away from it.
