Skyline High School girls beat Eastlake, Garfield

Elena Frerker and Jordan Branch each won two events Thursday as they led the Skyline High School girls track team to 4A KingCo Conference victories against Eastlake and Garfield.
Skyline won the three-way meet with 73 points. Eastlake was second with 68 points and Garfield was third with 35.
Frerker won the discus and the javelin.
Branch captured the 1,600 and the 3,200. She also ran of the Spartans’ winning 4×400 relay. Erin Bryar, Caitlin McIlwain and Maddi Hutson were other members of the relay.
The Skyline boys finished second to Garfield, which totaled 81 points. Skyline had 69 points and Eastlake had 31.
Liberty High School netters whip Interlake

The Liberty High School girls tennis team took the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles matches Tuesday as the Patriots defeated Interlake 5-2 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference match.
Amber Eastham won the No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Interlake’s Isabelle Long. Veronica Granger and Audrey LaFraugh defeated Interlake’s Iryna Strinyska and Miyati Raghavan 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 doubles match.
In the 4A KingCo Conference, Skyline swept all three doubles matches en route to a 6-2 victory against Inglemoor. Alison Opitz and Molly Knutson, of Skyline, won the No. 1 doubles with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory against Leanna Thim and Mckayla Dear.
Skyline soccer team tunes up for league opener

The Skyline High School boys soccer team, one of the preseason favorites for the 4A KingCo Conference title, tuned up for its league opener Monday with a 5-1 victory against visiting Auburn Mountainview.
James Molyneux-Elliott scored two goals for Skyline. Pedro Miola contributed a goal and an assist for the Spartans, 3-0-1 on the season.
In other action, Issaquah and Highline fought to a 1-1 tie in a nonleague game in Highline Stadium. Alex Shane, assisted by Drew Tacher, scored Issaquah’s goal at the 68th minute. Shane’s goal also tied the game. Issaquah’s overall record went to 3-0-2.
Both Skyline and Issaquah enter 4A KingCo play March 24. Skyline plays at Newport and Issaquah entertains Woodinville. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Issaquah also hosts Skyline at 7:30 p.m. March 26.
Issaquah golfers narrowly defeat Skyline

The Issaquah High School girls golf team has usually had a tough time on The Plateau Club golf course. However, on April 29 the Eagles defeated Skyline 255-260 on the Spartans’ home course.
“To go up there and beat them on their home course is very exciting. I know the girls were excited, too,” Issaquah coach Tom Bakamus said. “They’ve had our number the last few years.”
Issaquah’s Katherine Yoon, a senior, led both teams, shooting a 43 on the par-36 course.
Issaquah Eagles no-hit Newport

Pitcher Mikenzie Voves tossed a no-hitter Monday as the Issaquah High School fastpitch team blanked visiting Newport 10-0 in a five-inning 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Voves struck out six and walked just one batter.
Issaquah scored all its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Brielle Bray, Tracy Castonguay and Chelsea Peart each had two hits for Issaquah.
In the 3A/2A KingCo, Liberty walloped host Sammamish 12-0. Winning pitcher Denise Blohowiak hurled a one-hitter. She also had two hits and drove three runs. Savannah Herrera had three hits and knocked in two runs for the Patriots.

Spartans fastpitch wins two of three last week
The Skyline High School fastpitch won two of three 4A KingCo Conference games last week to take over first place in the Crest Division standings.
Skyline belted Lake Washington 13-4 April 19, held off Redmond 11-9 April 22 and lost to Bothell 4-1 April 23.
In the victory against Lake Washington, Skyline pitcher Lauren Richards had nine strikeouts. Anna Kanyer had four hits and Jillian Windsor two hits for the Spartans.
Against Redmond, Skyline scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to pull away to an 11-8 lead. Lindsey Nicholson had four hits and Kanyer had three hits and three RBIs. Mickey Dunn-Blad contributed three hits and four RBIs for Skyline. Richards picked up the victory, raising her record to 6-0.
One of the best pitching performances of the week came from Issaquah senior Mikenzie Voves, who blanked Roosevelt 2-0 April 19. Voves had 15 strikeouts and held Roosevelt to four hits.

The Issaquah High School baseball team sits alone in first place of the Crest Division today after walloping Eastlake 11-1 on Monday in a five-inning 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Issaquah’s bats matched the steady rain that fell throughout the game. The Eagles, 10-3, pounded out 13 hits.
Spencer Rogers led Issaquah with three hits. He also drove in a run. Devin O’Donnell and pitcher Shane Yarnell each had two hits and two RBIs. Mike Paulson and Grant Gellatly each had two hits.

Liberty, Issaquah track teams run to victory

The boys and girls track teams for Liberty and Issaquah high schools won their KingCo Conference meets Thursday.
Joshua Gordon had three first places as he led the Liberty boys past Interlake 91-55. Gordon won the 200 meters in 23.7 seconds, went 6-feet to win the high jump, and leaped 20 feet, 6 1/4 inches to take the long jump.
Peter Stacy, Devin Bennett and Troy Solly each won two events for Liberty. Stacy captured the javelin and the discus. Bennett won the 400 and the triple jump. Solly won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.

The Issaquah High School baseball team pounded out 12 hits April 12 as the Eagles belted visiting Bothell 11-4 in a 4A KingCo Conference game.
Grant Gellatly, Mike Paulson and Ben Rosellini each had two hits for Issaquah. Paulson, Spencer Rogers, Devin O’Donnell and Conner Young each drove in two runs for the Eagles, who are 10-2 on the season.
Winning pitcher Shane Yarnell, 5-0, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.
The Eagles are 6-2 in league play, a game out of first place in the Crest Division.
