Issaquah plays No. 1 Maria Carrillo to 1-1 overtime draw

The Issaquah High School Eagles (3-1-1) secured a 1-1 tie against the top-ranked team in the country, Maria Carrillo, of Santa Rose, California, on the road Sept. 20 on the Pumas’ home field.

Maria Carrillo (7-0-1), ranked No. 1 in the Top Drawer Soccer Fab 50 and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America co-No. 1, entered having outscored opponents 38-1 prior to the match against Issaquah, ranked No. 25 in the Fab 50 poll.

The Issaquah High School girls soccer coach has put the biggest challenge he possibly could in front of his three-time state champion program.

The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A in Washington state, plays the match of a lifetime at 4 p.m. Saturday when they travel to face the nation’s top-ranked team, Mario Carrillo, of Santa Rosa, Calif.

Issaquah girls lose second straight finale heartbreaker

This was supposed to be their year.

After a painful loss to rival Skyline in last year’s state championship, the Issaquah High School girls soccer team was not about to let the sting of second place plague them again.

The Eagles were off to a great start in 2013, finally defeating the Spartans in a thrilling shootout victory in the state quarterfinals Nov. 16.
