The annual Issaquah Rotary Challenge Gravity Car Race, where disabled children get the feel of soap box derby action, begins 9 a.m. July 17.
The annual event takes place on Second Avenue Southeast between Southeast Andrews and Southeast Darst streets in Issaquah.
Youngsters race in gravity cars that are 7 feet long and 29 inches wide. Two children ride in each car. The driver is nondisabled, 11 to 13 years of age. The co-driver is a disabled child.
Two cars, propelled by gravity, go down the hill at a time. Each car has brakes so the driver can safely stop it.
The physical requirements for special racers are height not more than 5 feet 2 inches; weight no more than 130 pounds; and age 5 years through adult.
Even children who have to use wheelchairs can be lifted into the cars and can participate in the race.

The annual event is from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday on Second Avenue Southeast between Southeast Andrews Street and Southeast Darst Street in Issaquah.
