Both Liberty and Issaquah girls soccer teams made early exits from the 2014 state 2A and 4A soccer tournaments.
Issaquah was sent packing after a second round loss to Gig Harbor on Nov. 15, while Liberty’s season ended with a 4-3 loss to Shorecrest on Nov. 15.

If it were a football game being played at Liberty High School on Sept. 9, the 7-0 shutout win for the home team would have told the story of a mostly defensive stalemate between two squads.
But Liberty and Hazen were not playing football that pleasant Tuesday evening; they were playing soccer. So, instead, that rare 7-0 score engineered by the Patriots told the opposite story — one that ends with an overpowering offensive performance courtesy of the defending 3A state champions, now playing at 2A.
“It’s so much fun when you’re scoring — and then you just keep scoring,” said junior captain Jordan Hemmen, who accounted for two of Liberty’s seven scores.

Issaquah athletes take top state honors
It was another successful year for Issaquah community sports.
Athletes at the three district high schools took home conference titles and state championships, while an Issaquah racing team made a splash on the water.

Patriots capture first girls state soccer title
As time wound down and the Liberty High School girls soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Kamiakin in the Nov. 23 3A state championship game, two things were certain.
First, the Patriots would capture their first state title in girls soccer. Second, the team, which had sworn off fast food this season, would feast on McDonald’s that night.

The Columbia River girls soccer team came into the state tournament with a rather impressive résumé.
In addition to being the defending state champions, the Chieftains had outscored opponents 83-0.
That’s right, no team had scored on Columbia River this year, that is until the team met the Patriots Nov. 13.
