Senior outside hitter Rachel Roeder’s offensive and defensive efforts Monday helped spark the Issaquah High School volleyball team to a 3-0 victory against visiting Inglemoor in the 4A KingCo Conference opener for both teams. Issaquah won the games 25-11, 25-14, 25-21.

Roeder, one of six seniors who have been on the varsity squad all four years, had 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Seniors Sarah Hanna, Alexa Batiquin and Riley Sorenson were other key contributors for the Eagles.

Hanna, an outside hitter, had 14 kills. Batiquin, a setter, had 10 digs and Sorenson, an outside hitter, had 32 assists.

It wasn’t just a senior show, however. Junior outside hitter Sam Rogers contributed five kills for the Eagles, 3-0 overall on the season. Issaquah has plenty of experience and depth this season. The players want to improve on last year’s performance, which wasn’t bad, as the Eagles won the district title and finished fifth at the 4A state tournament.
