Eagles win first SeaKing district swimming title

The Issaquah High School boys swim team had current coaches, former coaches and swimmers searching the program’s records last weekend.

That’s because the Eagles just might have established a first for the program. On Feb. 11, Issaquah finished in first place at the Sea-King District 4A Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Washington. The Eagles, sparked by two first-place relays, compiled 233 points to top KingCo Conference rival Newport by 2.5 points.

Skyline girls basketball team keeps Crest lead

NEW — 12:30 p.m. Jan. 27, 2012 

The Skyline High School girls basketball team shot to a 16-9 first quarter lead and went into cruise control the rest of the way Wednesday as the Spartans defeated Redmond 56-37 in KingCo Conference 4A action.

With the victory, Skyline went to 7-2 in league play and kept a one-game lead over Eastlake and Issaquah in the Crest Division standings.

Megan Wiedeman, of Skyline, scored a game-high 17 points. Teammates Morgan Farrar and Allie Wyszynski each had 10 points. Susie Tinker added eight points.

The Spartans have two of their toughest games coming up next week, hosting Issaquah Jan. 31 and playing at Eastlake on Feb. 1.

Logan Briggs reaches another milestone

Liberty High School’s Logan Briggs entered the school record book again Jan. 5 when he set a new mark in the 200 individual medley. Briggs won the race in a state-qualifying time of 1:56.65 to help the Patriots defeat Sammamish, 114-68.

Briggs holds five individual school records. He has the fastest times in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. He has also been a member of record-setting 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Teammate Raymond Ha also set a school record earlier this season by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.76.

Super sophomore Logan Briggs has busy state meet

There weren’t many swimmers busier than Liberty High School’s Logan Briggs at the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 18-19 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

On the final day, Briggs competed in five events. He didn’t come in first, but did grab a third place in the 500-yard freestyle to cap a super sophomore season.

Sophomore Logan Briggs qualifies in seven events for state

Although Logan Briggs is just a sophomore at Liberty High School, he’s already making a splash in the world of high school swimming. He qualified in seven events for this year’s 3A state championship meet, and set personal and school records at the 3A Sea-King District meet Feb. 13 in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

Liberty finished sixth in the team standings at the Sea-King District meet. The Patriots had 121 points. Mercer Island cruised to the team title, compiling 345.5 points. Lakeside, of Seattle, was second with 176.
