If Liberty High School swimmer Ellie Hohensinner learned anything after last year’s state-championship season, it’s that life at the top of the podium is pretty sweet.
“Being up there is an exciting thing,” she said. “It was probably the highlight of my year.”
The 2014 Liberty girls swimming and diving team won the program’s first state championship in devastatingly dominant fashion, winning seven of the meet’s 12 events and leaving the King County Aquatic Center with a Class 2A record score of 348 points. Read more

Liberty High School and the Issaquah School District are grateful for the generosity of the community who contributed in part to more than $2.3 million in scholarships to Liberty’s class of 2015 as reported by students and their parents.

It was another successful year for Issaquah community sports.
Athletes at the three district high schools took home conference titles, state championships and, in Liberty’s case, made history in 2014.

After finishing her high-school swimming career on the highest of notes, Liberty High School senior Mackenna Briggs was named a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Athlete of the Week.
Briggs swept the 50 free in 23.78 seconds and the 100 fly in a meet record 55.65 to lead the Patriots to their first 2A state team title with a record 348 points Nov. 15.

Just three days before the last state swim final of her career, Liberty High School star Mackenna Briggs was calm and determined.
Briggs signed her name to papers Nov. 12 solidifying her commitment to swim for the University of San Diego.

As the 2014 fall high-school postseason continues, most Liberty sports teams are finding that everything is just a little bit different this year.
The Patriots are now playing at the 2A level for at least the next two years. Liberty previously played at 3A, opting up a classification, despite the school’s size.
Liberty’s regular season remained unchanged. They still played a competitive schedule in the tough KingCo 3A/2A Conference.
But now that the school is in 2A, the road through the playoffs has a slightly different look to it. Read more

Liberty swim team defeats Issaquah in historic win
There is something special brewing in the waters of the Julius Boehm Pool, where the Liberty High School girls swim team practices and competes.
The 2A school is turning heads across the league, defeating schools much larger, on the way to an undefeated meet record more than halfway through the season.
Liberty defeated 4A schools Newport and Skyline; and on Oct. 2, the Patriots made history, defeating Issaquah for the first time ever.
“We’re a 2A team this year and we beat 4A teams,” Liberty senior captain Mackenna Briggs said. “It’s something that we couldn’t have envisioned and now that we’re doing it, we’re all really, really proud.”
