Sorting out Liberty’s 2A postseason

As the 2014 fall high-school postseason continues, most Liberty sports teams are finding that everything is just a little bit different this year.

The Patriots are now playing at the 2A level for at least the next two years. Liberty previously played at 3A, opting up a classification, despite the school’s size.

Liberty’s regular season remained unchanged. They still played a competitive schedule in the tough KingCo 3A/2A Conference.

But now that the school is in 2A, the road through the playoffs has a slightly different look to it. Read more

Patriots drop season finale to Interlake

The Liberty High School boys tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a home-court loss to Interlake Oct. 16.

The Patriots dropped five of the seven matches against the Saints, but found a sliver of hope when two players who normally compete in singles teamed up to show impressive mettle in the No. 1 doubles match.

Marek Pierepiekarz and Matthew Cao defeated Interlake’s Michael Kwong and Justin Lee in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

“Winning 6-3, 6-3 in the Interlake match was an amazing accomplishment for two singles players to achieve as a newly-formed doubles team,” Liberty coach Mike Salokas said.

Liberty nets season’s first conference win

In the first set of Marek Pierepiekarz’s Sept. 12 match against Juanita’s Branden Nokes, the Liberty High School sophomore was in complete control.

As the sun beat down and the sweat began to bead across his forehead, Pierepiekarz twirled his tennis racket with ease between serves while making quick work of Nokes on the way to a 6-0 first-set victory at the Tibbetts Park Tennis Courts.
