As the city of Issaquah considers raising its business and occupation tax for the first time since 2004, local business owners gathered to offer their concerns about the proposal at an Oct. 15 roundtable at Tibbetts Creek Manor.
The Issaquah Chamber of Commerce-hosted event showed business leaders have plenty of questions about the tax increase, including where the extra revenue will be spent.
“I don’t want to pay for fluff,” said Norma Stephens, Curves of Issaquah owner.

King County Public Health shut down the McDonald’s restaurant in the 1300 block of Northwest Gilman Boulevard on July 7.
Citing “sewage backup in kitchen,” King County officials immediately closed the restaurant and drive-thru at 4:10 p.m., according to the county’s website of food establishment closures.
The restaurant is still closed.

John Carroz took his 9-year-old son J.K. to get passport photos in early May.
“Are we going somewhere?” an inquisitive J.K. asked.
“Uh, no, it’s a Mother’s Day gift,” John responded, trying his best to hide a secret of epic proportions.
The cat was finally let out of the bag June 11, when, in front of family, friends and Seattle Sounders FC goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, J.K. learned he won a trip to the World Cup in Brazil courtesy of McDonald’s.
