Unlike most teenagers, Liberty High School senior Jaylyn Andrus loves a good opera, and for her, the bloodier the production, the better.

“I love the drama in operas,” she said. “There are some funny ones, but my favorites are the ones where everyone dies.”

One day, Jaylyn envisions herself performing in the very productions she has grown to admire, and she is well on her way, gaining acceptance into one of the top college music programs and earning national recognition for her vocal talents.

Marnie Maraldo will seek re-election

Issaquah School Board member Marnie Maraldo has announced that she will file for re-election this spring.

Maraldo, of Newcastle, occupies the District 2 seat, representing Newcastle and the southwest portion of the school district. She was elected to the board at the end of 2009, taking over for longtime member Connie Fletcher.

The Newcastle mother of two looks forward to continuing the work of managing the district through a challenging fiscal period, if re-elected, she said in a statement.
