Issaquah repeats as state lacrosse champion

Issaquah High School repeated as the girls state lacrosse champion May 15, downing Bainbridge, 11-8, at Eastside Catholic School.

Issaquah held Bainbridge to just three shots in the first half, and then got stellar goaltending from sophomore Katie Earll down the stretch to preserve its undefeated season and extended its winning streak to 28 games.

Issaquah girls knock off Eastside Catholic in lacrosse opener

Two-time all-state midfielder Suzy Emerson opened the 2015 Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association season the same way she finished 2014.

The Issaquah senior scored five goals, and added three ground balls and four draw controls to lead the Eagles to a 9-3 win over Eastside Catholic on March 9 at Robinswood Park in Bellevue.

Issaquah girls win state lacrosse title in a thriller

Katie Bucy got a second chance and made the most of it, scoring the game winner May 16 with under a minute remaining to give Issaquah an 11-10 victory over Lake Sammamish and its first Washington high school girls state lacrosse championship.

Bucy, a Skyline High School senior who will play next year at Missouri’s Lindenwood University, delivered the winner on a free-position shot after a goal just seconds earlier was disallowed on a shooting-space violation.

“That’s the biggest goal ever,” Bucy said while celebrating with teammates from Skyline, Issaquah and Liberty high schools. “It was hit or miss, and this one was a hit.”

The shot beat Lake Sammamish goaltender and Eastlake freshman Kristene Nickel low and to the left, opposite of where she wanted to go with the shot.
