I’ve already had an advance peek on account of it was my job to sort and collate the entries, but let me just say how envious I am of the skill and the special moments captured by all of you who have once again entered our annual Issaquah and Sammamish Amateur Photo Contest.

The Downtown Issaquah Association’s ArtWalk returns Aug. 7.
Visitors are invited to meet local business owners, enjoy live music, watch artists in action, shop and dine in downtown Issaquah.
ArtWalk features talented artists with art ranging from jewelry and photography to paintings and metal work. There will also be kids’ art activities sponsored by artEAST and Artitudes.

Meet business owners, enjoy live music, watch artists in action, experience children’s activities, shop and dine from 6-9 p.m. July 10 and Aug. 7.
ArtWalk draws hundreds of visitors to historic downtown by inviting artists to local businesses and community streets. The events feature up to 50 talented artists with art including jewelry, photography, paintings, glass and metal work, sculpture and more.

Strike doesn’t set a good example for students
When teachers go on strike, they doing so against state law (RCW 41.56.120). (Nothing contained in this chapter shall permit any public employee the right to strike or refuse to preform his or her official duties.)

The Issaquah School District announced this year’s Reflections art contest winners, who will have a chance to compete at the state level this spring. Students in every grade are eligible to compete in several different categories.

“Snow Racer” and “Snow Monster,” created by Julie Clegg, of Bailey & Banjo Pet Photography in Issaquah, was recently accepted into the Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2014 International Photographic Competition.
Clegg’s work will be on display at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville from Feb. 1-3. The International Photographic Exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.

The Issaquah-based Puget Sound Gunners FC soccer team will open its season with a May 17 matchup against the Portland Timbers U-23.
The team, led by head coach and Issaquah resident Jimmy Ball, features athletes from across the Northwest region and beyond, including Issaquah High School graduate Michael Roberts.
Players from the University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University and Western Washington University will suit up for the Gunners.

The free Sammamish Arts Fair features some of the best jury-selected local artists, including 17 from Sammamish.
