When the owner of Uncle Si’s Pizza was looking to open a second location outside Snoqualmie Ridge, he chose a curious spot.

A few months back, he opened that second location in the Sammamish Lakeside Plaza on East Lake Sammamish Parkway. Commuters to and from Issaquah drive past it daily, while schools are all up the hill in Sammamish and businesses are south, closer to downtown Issaquah. So it’s not very conveniently located for the typical lunch crowd, unless you live in the nearby apartment complexes.

Extreme Pizza’s risky combos pay off with big flavor

We don’t usually review restaurant chains, but instead try to stick with local cuisine. Technically, Extreme Pizza is a chain, with franchises in 11 states.

However, good luck finding the next nearest one outside Issaquah, as our fair city has the only one in Washington.

Also, just about the only thing extreme is the sports the founder is renowned for doing, from skydiving to snowboarding.

MOD Pizza opening in Issaquah Highlands Sunday

NEW — 6 a.m. Oct. 5, 2013

MOD Pizza will open a location in the Issaquah Highlands tomorrow at 1568 Highlands Drive N.E., Suite 130.

This will be the 11th MOD Pizza location in Washington state.

The store will open at 11 a.m., and the first 52 people in line will receive a free pizza. There will be a retro photo booth in the store all day, and names will  be collected for a grand-prize drawing of pizza for a year. Names will be collected all weekend and a winner will be notified Oct. 7.
