Liberty High School and the Issaquah School District are grateful for the generosity of the community who contributed in part to more than $2.3 million in scholarships to Liberty’s class of 2015 as reported by students and their parents.

Liberty High School honored four graduating student-athletes at a special ceremony April 15.
Runners Sarah Bliesner and Trevor Sytsma, as well as football players Russell Boston and Nate Jarvis, announced their commitments to continue their athletic careers at the college level.

Liberty High School senior Cherelle Demps’ plan of attack appeared simple in the team’s Feb. 28 regional playoff game.
Drive toward the basket, draw the foul and sink the free throws. She executed that sequence over and over, while opponent East Valley struggled to put a stop to it.

The Liberty High School girls basketball season is starting to feel mighty similar to one Cinderella-type playoff run the school witnessed in 2013.

The 2014-2015 Liberty High School boys basketball team did something Feb. 14 that no past Patriots squad has ever done.
Liberty won a district playoff game for the first time in the boys’ program history, and thus, kept the dream of a state playoff berth alive.

The Issaquah High School girls cross-country team continued its magical season Oct. 25, winning the KingCo 4A League championship for the first time in 21 years.
The Eagles had four runners in the top eight, led by Issaquah’s top finisher, Cayla Seligman. The Issaquah senior took third place overall, running the 3.1-mile course at Lake Sammamish State Park in 18 minutes, 7.32 seconds.

Patriots, Eagles do well at invitational
The Liberty High School cross-country team swept the competition, defeating both Lake Washington and Sammamish in an Oct. 8 meet at Bellevue’s Robinswood Park.
The Patriots’ boys and girls squads each scored 22 points on the way to the win. Senior Trevor Sytsma was the top finisher for the boys, navigating the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 54 seconds. Teammate Andrew Cooper was right behind him, finishing second with a time of 18:14.

On the back of the Liberty cross-country team’s blue sweatshirts is an outline of Washington state. Superimposed across it are the words “We run this place.”
The 2013 Patriots are well on the way to living up to the phrase, having just completed an undefeated KingCo 3A/2A regular season.
