Final Cougar Mountain trail run offers 20-mile, 50-kilometer races

Organizers of the popular SCOTT Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series at King County’s Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park have saved the toughest day of racing for last.
After runs of five, eight, 10 and 13 miles earlier this year, trail-run enthusiasts will have their choice of participating in races of 20 miles or 50 kilometers (31.06 miles) Oct. 28.

Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is among the 25 best places for trail running in the United States.
Runner’s World magazine named the Issaquah Alps peak to the list in a recent issue.
“Every urban area should be blessed with a trail running sanctuary as sublime as Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park,” the magazine noted.

Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is among the 25 best places for trail running in the United States.
Runner’s World magazine named the Issaquah Alps peak to the list.
“Every urban area should be blessed with a trail running sanctuary as sublime as Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park,” the magazine notes.
The mountain boasts a 36-mile trail system. King County Parks and the Seattle Running Club produce a popular trail running series on the mountain each year.
Cougar Mountain is the only Washington destination on the list.
Cougar Mountain trail running series kicks off May 14

The eighth annual Cougar Mountain Trail Running Series gets going May 14 with a 5-mile run at King County’s Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.
The race, which starts at the Sky Country Trailhead, begins at 9 a.m. The Sky Country Trailhead is on 166th Way Southeast, just off Cougar Mountain Way.
The series, sponsored by the Seattle Running Club, has four races in all during the season. Other races are scheduled for June 12 (7 miles), July 10 (10 miles) and Aug. 14 (13 miles).
Volunteer work groups from the trail-running community spend an average of 120 hours each year doing trail restoration work, including improving trail surface conditions and picking up trash.

One of the most popular trail-running events in the Pacific Northwest returns to Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park on Saturday.
The eighth-annual Cougar Mountain Trail Running Series kicks off May 15 with a five-mile run — the first of four races on a portion of Cougar Mountain’s scenic trail network.
Runs of seven, 10 and 13 miles are scheduled in the following three months.
Sponsored by the Seattle Running Club, the race series not only introduces hundreds of people to Cougar Mountain’s 36 miles of trails, but it also benefits King County Parks.
