King County Sheriff’s Office and Issaquah School District officials reached out to parents Wednesday, because a registered sex offender is moving to May Valley.
The sheriff’s office is holding a sexual-offender notification meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. April 20 at Apollo Elementary School, 15025 S.E. 117th St., Renton.
The offender, Randall Eugene Berry, is moving to the 18800 block of Southeast May Valley Road. People living near Berry’s residence received mailers about the move.
Berry was charged with first-degree rape in 1984. Posing as an off-duty police officer with a fake badge, he used his vehicle’s headlights or emergency flashers to stop women who were driving alone, according to the sheriff’s office. He then told victims they had committed a traffic violation, or that they had defective vehicle equipment.

King County Sheriff’s deputies held a meeting at Newcastle City Hall on May 20 to inform residents in the city and the surrounding school districts about a newly registered Level 3 sex offender.
Joseph Pershing Hemmert, 64, lives in the 7000 block of 122nd Avenue Southeast.
A Level 3 offender is most likely to re-offend.
Hemmert was convicted of molesting an 8-year-old at a roller skating rink in 1965 and was released in 1968. In 1970, he was convicted for luring two minor girls away from a store and molesting them at his home. He was released in 1972. In 1990, he was convicted for molesting two 7-year-old boys and a 6-year-old girl at his home. He was released in 1993.
He has been known to target children between the ages of 5 and 12 and frequents areas where children congregate.
Hemmert is 5 feet, 8 inches and weighs about 250 pounds. He has green eyes and gray hair.
The Issaquah School District sent out an e-mail notice to families in the area, because Hemmert lives just outside the district boundaries.
Immediate questions should be addressed to the King County Sheriff’s Office Offender Community Awareness Program at 206-205-7948.
For more information, or to use the sex offender search tool online, go to the sheriff’s office website.

The King County Sheriff’s Office website now includes a sex offender website search that allows users to view information about sex offenders within a two-mile radius of a given address.
As a result, the Issaquah School District has slightly altered its sex offender notification system.
District officials used to send out alerts from time to time about class two and three sex offenders that had already been living near their schools for some time.
Now, district officials will send out reminders for parents to check the county’s website.
