Downtown association’s Shop Small program connects the community

“You get out and support your community, the dollars stay local and you find unique items you won’t find elsewhere,” said Karen Donovan, chairwoman of the Downtown Issaquah Association.

Inside her White Horse Toys in Gilman Village, owner Debra Lewis said there are mass-market products and there are specialty markets.

“We try to stick with the specialty items,” she said, adding that bigger chain stores or online retailers can’t match her in terms of customer service and overall shopping experience.

Volunteers sought for holiday light-hanging party Nov. 22

Help light up downtown and some key spots around downtown (and get a free lunch) at the annual holiday light-hanging party beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 22.

The event, sponsored by the Downtown Issaquah Association, starts at the Hailstone Feed Store, 232 Front St. N.

Shop Small, Shop Local comes to Issaquah

We have all heard the hype surrounding Black Friday, when big box retailers roll out their lowest sale prices of the year to kick off the holiday shopping season. And then there is Cyber Monday, the big day for online shopping orders.

But Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize the storefronts right in their own hometowns.

Building on the theme of Small Business Saturday, initiated by American Express in 2010, the catchier phrase Shop Small has become a nationwide movement. The Downtown Issaquah Association adopted the movement to get things rolling here, literally.
