Bellevue College pitcher Adrian Sampson, a former Skyline High School standout, was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 16th round Tuesday in the Major League amateur baseball draft.
Sampson, a freshman, was the 493rd player selected in the draft. He compiled a 5-2 record with 68 strikeouts in 54 innings and a 2.19 earned run average this spring. Opponents hit just .193 against him.
The right-hander helped the Bulldogs capture the NWAACC Title. In the NWAACC Tournament, Sampson tossed a three-hitter and struck out 15 in beating Lower Columbia 3-0. He was selected to the all-tournament team.
Sampson is the second member of his family to be drafted by a Major League team. The Philadelphia Phillies selected older brother Julian, also a Skyline graduate, in the 2007 draft. He pitched in the Phillies’ organization for four seasons. Julian is pitching for the Brockton Rox in the independent Can-Am League.

District bragging rights will be on the line May 5 when the Liberty, Skyline and Issaquah high school track and field teams tangle at 4 p.m. in a regular-season ending meet in Issaquah’s Gary Moore Stadium.
Many athletes will use the meet to tune up for next week’s KingCo Conference championships at Juanita High School. However, head coaches for the three schools will still put together competitive lineups for the Issaquah District Meet, which annually showcases some of the top athletes in the state.
Certainly one of the headliners at this year’s meet will be Skyline’s Kasen Williams, who has the state’s best high jump at 6 feet, 11 inches and top triple jump at 48-3. Williams won the high jump and long jump April 30 at the Shoreline Invitational.
