Skyline Spartans baseball blanks Ballard

Jayce Nelson allowed just three hits Wednesday as he pitched the Skyline High School baseball team to an 8-0 victory against host Ballard.

Nate Litka had two hits and drove in two runs for Skyline.

In other 4A KingCo Conference action, Inglemoor scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to nip Issaquah 8-7 and Roosevelt edged Eastlake 2-1.

Issaquah held a 5-3 lead against Inglemoor, the Crown Division leaders, going into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Inglemoor scored three times to take the lead. Issaquah scored in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Issaquah High School Eagles belt Bothell

The Issaquah High School baseball team pounded out 12 hits April 12 as the Eagles belted visiting Bothell 11-4 in a 4A KingCo Conference game.

Grant Gellatly, Mike Paulson and Ben Rosellini each had two hits for Issaquah. Paulson, Spencer Rogers, Devin O’Donnell and Conner Young each drove in two runs for the Eagles, who are 10-2 on the season.

Winning pitcher Shane Yarnell, 5-0, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

The Eagles are 6-2 in league play, a game out of first place in the Crest Division.

Jim Magnuson resigned as Issaquah High School’s fastpitch coach following the 2009 season. However, Magnuson is back this season.

School officials talked him into returning for what will be his eighth year with the Eagles, who were 4A KingCo Conference Crest Division co-champs a year ago.

Liberty belts Bellevue

Troy Colyer had three hits and drove in three runs, and John McLeod belted a home run as the Liberty High School baseball team pounded Bellevue 11-5 March 24 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference game at Liberty.

The Patriots, who scored seven times in the second inning, held a commanding 10-0 lead after three innings.

Liberty raised its league-leading record to 4-0.

Patriots kick off title defense with pair of wins

The Liberty High School Patriots began defense of their 3A/2A KingCo Conference title last week with two victories against the Juanita Rebels.

The Patriots won at Juanita 6-2 March 17 and beat the Rebels 10-9 March 19 at Liberty.

In the March 19 game, Liberty scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome the Rebels. Jason Hubbard, Ryan Maio and John McLeod each had two hits for Liberty.

In the March 17 game, Hubbard drove in three runs and McLeod had three hits. Liberty scored four times in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding lead. Cameron Talley had two hits for Liberty. Connor Sjolander was the winning pitcher. Read more

Liberty Patriots top Bellevue

Troy Colyer did it with his bat and with his arm March 23 as he sparked the Liberty High School baseball team to a 7-5 victory against visiting Bellevue.

Colyer had two hits and drove in three runs. He also provided some clutch relief pitching in the seventh to end a Bellevue rally.

Peter Wiggum had two hits for the Patriots, who fought back from a 4-0 deficit. Bellevue scored four times in the top of the first inning. The Patriots came back with two runs in the third and went ahead in the fourth inning by scoring three runs.

John McLeod, who worked the first five innings for Liberty, was the winning pitcher.

The victory boosted Liberty’s 3A/2A KingCo Conference record to 3-0.

Skyline pitcher tosses no-hitter

Skyline High School pitcher Lauren Richards tossed a perfect game March 15 as the Spartans won their fastpitch softball season-opener 2-0 against visiting Tahoma.

Richards struck out 10 batters. The Spartans, who had just two hits, scored single runs in the first and fifth innings.

Patriots drop opener

The Liberty High School baseball team outhit Lake Washington but defensive problems came back to haunt the Patriots, who dropped their season-opener 6-5.

Liberty had seven hits and held Lake Washington to two hits. However, Liberty also committed five errors.

Troy Colyer had two hits for Liberty.
