The Issaquah High School baseball team captured its fourth straight victory Monday when the Eagles downed visiting Ballard 8-3.
Brandon Mahovlich’s pitching and hitting led Issaquah, which moved into third place in the 4A KingCo Conference Crest Division with a 4-3 record. Mahovlich went the distance to earn his second victory. He also had three hits, one a home run. Matt Gonn, Blake Miller and Ben Rosellini had run-scoring hits for Issaquah, too.
In other action, Inglemoor topped Skyline 7-5. Nate Litka had three hits and drove in three runs for Skyline.
In a battle of division leaders, Crest pacing Redmond defeated Crown leader Bothell 11-9. In other games, it was Roosevelt 6, Eastlake 3 and Newport 6, Garfield 5.
In the 3A/2A KingCo, Mount Si hammered five home runs, three by Tim Proudfoot, to wallop Liberty 11-0. In other games it was Bellevue 5, Sammamish 1; Lake Washington 7, Juanita 3; and Interlake 3, Mercer Island 2.

The Issaquah and Newport high school baseball teams have had some classic battles of the years and their Tuesday 4A KingCo Conference opener was no exception. Newport, the host team, prevailed 1-0.
Newport scored its run in the bottom of the seventh to end a pitchers’ duel.
Ethan Kalin started for Issaquah and threw hitless innings before being relieved by Scott Boydston, who blanked Newport until the seventh.
Cole Wiper, Newport’s starting pitcher, worked the first five innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out eight. Jared Fisher, the winning pitcher, worked the final two innings for Newport.
Daniel Altchech singled in pinch runner Ioannis Kritsonis with the winning run.

The Issaquah High School boys soccer team posted its second shutout of the week Wednesday when the Eagles defeated visiting Auburn Mountainview 3-0 in a nonleague game in Gary Moore Stadium.
Michael Roberts scored two goals and assisted on one as the Eagles improved their season record to 2-0-1. Roberts, assisted by Nick Smith, scored the Eagles’ first goal at the 25th minute. Smith, assisted by Roberts, put the Eagles up 2-0 at the 70th minute. Roberts, assisted by Alex Shane, wrapped up scoring at the 72nd minute. Goalkeeper Nathan King recorded the shutout.
Issaquah walloped visiting Chief Sealth 7-0 March 14. Shane scored four goals to highlight the Issaquah offense. Smith, Drew Tacher and Cooper Fry scored the other Issaquah goals. Evan King and David Degginger share the goalkeeping duties.
The Eagles play another nonleague game at Eastside Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Issaquah High School girls golf team has usually had a tough time on The Plateau Club golf course. However, on April 29 the Eagles defeated Skyline 255-260 on the Spartans’ home course.
“To go up there and beat them on their home course is very exciting. I know the girls were excited, too,” Issaquah coach Tom Bakamus said. “They’ve had our number the last few years.”
Issaquah’s Katherine Yoon, a senior, led both teams, shooting a 43 on the par-36 course.

Pitcher Mikenzie Voves tossed a no-hitter Monday as the Issaquah High School fastpitch team blanked visiting Newport 10-0 in a five-inning 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Voves struck out six and walked just one batter.
Issaquah scored all its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Brielle Bray, Tracy Castonguay and Chelsea Peart each had two hits for Issaquah.
In the 3A/2A KingCo, Liberty walloped host Sammamish 12-0. Winning pitcher Denise Blohowiak hurled a one-hitter. She also had two hits and drove three runs. Savannah Herrera had three hits and knocked in two runs for the Patriots.

The Issaquah High School boys soccer team fought first-place Bothell to a scoreless standstill Tuesday in a 4A KingCo Conference defensive battle.
Goalkeeper Evan King recorded the shutout for the Eagles, who are 5-2-1 in league play and tied with Roosevelt for fourth place.
Skyline jumped ahead of Issaquah in the jam-packed KingCo standings with a 5-1 rout of Ballard. Cole Calabro scored two goals for Skyline. Goals by Giancarlo Santoro and Braxton Griffin gave the Spartans a 2-0 halftime lead. Ballard scored in the first minute of the second half but Pedro Miola answered for Skyline.

Spartans fastpitch wins two of three last week
The Skyline High School fastpitch won two of three 4A KingCo Conference games last week to take over first place in the Crest Division standings.
Skyline belted Lake Washington 13-4 April 19, held off Redmond 11-9 April 22 and lost to Bothell 4-1 April 23.
In the victory against Lake Washington, Skyline pitcher Lauren Richards had nine strikeouts. Anna Kanyer had four hits and Jillian Windsor two hits for the Spartans.
Against Redmond, Skyline scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to pull away to an 11-8 lead. Lindsey Nicholson had four hits and Kanyer had three hits and three RBIs. Mickey Dunn-Blad contributed three hits and four RBIs for Skyline. Richards picked up the victory, raising her record to 6-0.
One of the best pitching performances of the week came from Issaquah senior Mikenzie Voves, who blanked Roosevelt 2-0 April 19. Voves had 15 strikeouts and held Roosevelt to four hits.

The Liberty High School girls golf team defeated Skyline 276-279 April 15 in a KingCo Conference match at the Plateau Club in Sammamish.

Skyline High School No. 1 golfer Ashley Young birdied the par-three eighth hole — Sahalee’s signature hole which lies on the difficult north-nine course.
Young sunk a 15-foot downhill putt from the edge of the green, just in front of a bunker.
“I saw it (cut) and said, ‘That’s going in,’” Young said as she tallied her score. “It definitely boosts my confidence a lot.”
The shot was the highlight of the day for Skyline and it helped Young finish with a 44 — tied for her best this season. But it wasn’t enough to lift the Spartans. Eastlake improved to 4-0 on the season after winning 242-275 April 13 at Sahalee Country Club.
“It wasn’t the best showing for us, but sometimes that happens in golf,” said Skyline coach Betsy Gaines. Read more

Travis Strawn scored two goals Tuesday as he led the Skyline High School boys soccer team to a 2-0 4A KingCo Conference victory against host Roosevelt.
With the victory, Skyline boosted its league record to 4-1-0 and moved into first place. Roosevelt dropped out of the top spot and into a tie with Issaquah for second place.
The victory was Skyline’s third straight.
Issaquah rallied for a 3-2 victory against visiting Ballard. Michael Axelson, assisted by Michael Roberts, scored the winning goal at the 79th minute. Carter Mitchell and Lucas Morais scored Issaquah’s other goals. The Eagles are 3-1-1 in league play.
