State OKs Tiger Mountain logging, surprises residents

“I’ve lived here 47 years and that’s the first time I’ve seen any logging,” Tiger Mountain resident Lorie Graff said. “It was shocking.”

Graff said the clear-cutting of trees in what many thought was Tiger Mountain State Forest was the talk of her neighborhood. It’s not clear when it started, but the logging ended about a week ago.

“It now looks disgusting,” resident Mike Shimchick wrote in an email.

Local man dies in Tiger Mountain Road crash

A motorcycle driver died March 20 after he struck a pickup just south of Issaquah.

Authorities said a Toyota Tundra was headed eastbound on a stretch of Tiger Mountain Road at about 1:15 p.m. When the 18 year-old driver of the truck made a left-hand turn from Tiger Mountain Road onto 241st Place Southeast, the motorcycle struck the truck. Authorities said the driver apparently did not the see the westbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the right rear of the truck. The impact threw the motorcycle driver more than 50 feet. Read more

Issaquah man dies in motorcycle accident on Tiger Mountain Road

A motorcycle driver died Saturday after he struck a pickup just south of Issaquah.

Authorities said a Toyota Tundra was headed eastbound on a winding stretch of Tiger Mountain Road at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday. When the 18 year-old driver made a left-hand turn onto 241st Place Southeast, the motorcycle struck the truck. The driver apparently did not the see westbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the right rear of the truck. The impact threw the motorcycle driver more than 50 feet.

Bellevue firefighters and the King County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, Issaquah resident Kenneth Earl Solders, 57, died at the scene. He wore a full-face helmet.
