Not a Veterans Day or a Memorial Day goes by without a city celebration honoring the men and women who fought, or continue to fight, for this country’s freedom.

Issaquah and its residents won’t forget those sacrifices anytime soon, because Dave Waggoner won’t let them.

VFW hosts popular Veterans Day ceremony

Due to its growing popularity, the service that the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3436 hosts honoring local services members returns to the Issaquah Valley Senior Center.

David Waggoner, of the Issaquah VFW, said last year’s service at the new location exceeded 100 attendees.

All residents are invited, regardless of whether they’ve served in the military. The headlining guest speaker this year is state Rep. Chad Magendanz. Marilyn Batura, whose brother was killed in the Pacific during World War II and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, will read a poem about veterans.
