Virginia Ruth Blodgett, who passed away Sept. 2, 2012, in San Marcos, Calif., made her home in Issaquah from 1979 until 2011.
Virginia, who was born in Kansas City, Mo., on July 11, 1920, was the daughter of William Bell Richards and Ella May Smith. Her father worked as a steward of a country club and later as a country club chef.
Virginia grew up in Missouri, moving several times within the state when her father changed jobs. In 1934, her family moved to Marceline, Mo., where her father ran the Sante Fe Lunch Room at the train station.
In 1936, after both of her parents had died, she went to live with her aunt and uncle in Mexico, Mo., where she graduated from high school in 1937.
