The spring equinox is upon us. People traditionally greet it with incredible joy.
Some happy, spirited souls might throw a giant feast; students stay up all night and consume too much liquor. Others might dance the night away, while some unusual folks do strange things. I don’t know what you might like to do to celebrate the end of winter — the termination of scarcity, and the return of hope and plenty.

When Steve and Dud got up to go get a paper, it left just Doc and Bert sitting at the philosophy counter of the Mule Barn truck stop.
Bert turned his head and smirked a little, being careful not to let Doc see him. Doc also didn’t see Dud outside, punching in a number on his cell phone while Steve stood by as a cheerleader.

It might have been the winter doldrums that did it. You can never be sure of these things.
It’s just that … well, Doc is one of those guys who can’t stand to see anyone bored. He claims it’s bad for their inner chemistry, and since he has more initials after his name than anyone else in town, we tend to listen to him.

As temperatures turn colder and the holiday season approaches, the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah is spearheading its annual Coat and Shoe Drive on behalf of the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank to benefit families in our community.
Donate new and gently used coats and shoes at locations throughout Issaquah, including the lobby at Issaquah City Hall and Police Department, 130 E. Sunset Way.
For a complete list of collection box locations, visit the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah website. The collection boxes will be in place until Nov. 30, 2013
